Important Update, October 13, 2003
On the afternoon (ET) of October 13, 2003, we will be implementing a change from a single-server session cookie to a multi-server session cookie. This change is a different way of implementing the session authentication feature that should solve all the timeout problems discussed below. While we are making this change, you may be prompted to sign in multiple times. Please be patient as the new multi-server session cookie process takes effect. |
As many of you know, we recently implemented session authentication in the Lotus Communities forums and in the Sandbox. Session authentication lets you sign into the forums or Sandbox once and to be authenticated across the site for the duration of your session. For instance, you can sign into the Notes/Domino 4 & 5 forum, post a topic, and then go to the Notes/Domino 6 forum and post a topic without having to sign in again. We implemented session authentication because:
- It provides easier access to the forums and Sandbox by enabling you to sign in once per session.
- It provides better security by encrypting your user name and password.
- It helps to test this feature of Domino.
Many of you have shared your concerns about this change, and we want to let you know how we are addressing these concerns. Below are some specifics. In short, we are working diligently to resolve your issues and appreciate your patience during this time.
Timeouts
We have addressed the timeout issue some of you were having by increasing the idle session timeout from the default of 30 minutes to 720 minutes or twelve hours. We believe that this issue is resolved; however, if you continue to experience timeout problems while in our forums or Sandbox, please use the feedback form to provide the following information to help us resolve your issue:
- Which areas of the site did you visit (Sandbox, Notes/Domino 6 forum, and so on)?
- How long did your session last before timing out?
- Which Web browser and version are you using?
To properly diagnosis the problem, we need as much detail as you can provide.
Inability to continue past the sign in page
Some of you have been repeatedly prompted to log in to a forum or into the Sandbox and have been unable to successfully do so. If this is the case, please check your cookie settings to ensure that your Web browser can accept cookies. Refer to your Web browser help for more information about cookie settings.
Saving user name and password credentials
We understand that some users would like the ability to have their user name and password information saved so they do not have to type it every time they sign in. We're currently looking into providing this capability.
Contact us
Please continue to share your thoughts and concerns regarding LDD. We are listening and will do our best to address those concerns. Use our feedback form to contact us. |
