User Review of Autonumbering database for sequential numbering in replicated applications
Submitted by Christopher T Carswell on 03/03/2002.
Rating: 5 stars
Our team spent many hours wondering why the autonumbering agent was failing. What we found was that in the default database the spelling of "CentralServer" should be "Central Server". Hope this saves many a developer some time. I am going to incorporate this design into a Sales application that is to be used between two offices one in New Jersey and one in Atlanta. Because of bandwidth concerns I am going to try to customize the design so that the central server is in Atlanta but when a quote is generated in New Jersey the autonumbering agent looks to Atlanta to get the next number in line and saves the updated counter in Atlanta with out waiting for the replication scheme to complete. Mr. Coombs current scheme would save the Order in NJ without the sequenced number then replicate to Atl where the agent would run and hand out the order number then when it replicated back to NJ the user would receive their order number. In theory we think that the bandwidth and time frame were outside of reasonable parameters we have to work with. I will review this tool again after completion.
