Lotus Domino XML InfoCenter in DITAbase XML
This is a proof-of-concept initiative combining two essential technical sources - the "XML Powered by Domino: How to use XML with Lotus Domino" Redbook and the "Lotus XML Toolkit User's Guide and Reference Guide".
This InfoCenter content is provided in XML using the DITAbase DTD, which is available on the IBM developerWorks site. The download includes style sheets for viewing the XML with Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.x, with the MSXML3 parser upgrade.
We are providing this content solely as a proof-of-concept for the DITAbase DTD, and not with any explicit or implied statement of intention.
System Requirements
- Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows NT, or Windows 2000
- Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.x or later
- MSXML3 parser upgrade installed in replace mode
To install MSXML3 parser upgrade in replace mode
To view this DITAbase XML InfoCenter content with Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.x you must first install the MSXML3 parser upgrade in replace mode. This involves completing all three of the procedures below.
1) Install the Windows Installer
The MSXML 3.0 and subsequent releases require the Windows Installer. If you are running Windows NTŪ 4.0, Windows 98, or Windows 95, you must first update your Windows Installer to version 1.1. If you are running Windows 2000, you already have this and there is no need to reinstall; skip to "2) Install MSXML3 parser upgrade."
1. Start Internet Explorer 5.x and navigate to this web page: http://msdn.microsoft.com/xml/general/xmlparser.asp
2. Click the link to Download MSXML 3.0 from MSDN Online Downloads.
3. On the MSXML Parser 3.0 Release page, scroll down to "Notes, Support, and Feedback" and click the link to "Download the Windows Installer here."
4. Click the link to download the Windows Installer Redistributable for your version of Windows.
5. Under Download Now, click the link to download InstMsi.exe.
6. Choose "Run this program from its current location" and click OK.
7. Click Yes to accept the security warning, and click OK when the installation completes.
2) Install MSXML3 parser upgrade
- Start Internet Explorer 5.x and navigate to this web page: http://msdn.microsoft.com/xml/general/xmlparser.asp
- Click the link to Download MSXML 3.0 from MSDN Online Downloads.
- Click the Download link in the MSXML Parser 3.0 Release page.
- Click Yes to agree to the license agreement.
- Choose "Run this program from its current location" and click OK.
- Click Yes to accept the security warning.
- Follow the instructions to install the MSXML 3.0 Release.
3) Finish installing the MSXML3 parser in replace mode
- Start Internet Explorer 5.x and navigate to this web page: http://msdn.microsoft.com/xml/general/xmlparser.asp
- Scroll down to "Side-by-Side Functionality" and click the "Download the xmlinst.exe utility and readme" link.
- Click the Download link in the "Xmlinst.exe Replace Mode Tool" page.
- Click Yes to agree to the license agreement.
- Choose "Run this program from its current location" and click OK.
- Click Yes to accept the security warning.
- Make note of the name of the unzip folder specified and click Unzip, then click Close.
- Choose Programs - MS-DOS (Windows 98) or Programs - Command Prompt (Windows 2000) prompt from the Windows Start menu.
This opens a command prompt window.
- At the command prompt, type drive:\pathname\xmlinst where pathname is the folder where you unzipped xmlinst.exe and drive is the drive containing this folder, and press Enter.
- Close the MS-DOS/Command Prompt box.
To install and view Lotus Domino XML InfoCenter in DITAbase XML
- Download XML_INFOCENTER.EXE.
- Run XML_INFOCENTER.EXE to unzip the help files to the folder \Lotus\Notes\Data\Help.
- To view this InfoCenter content, start Internet Explorer 5 or later and use File - Open to open XML_InfoCenter_Start.htm in the \Lotus\Notes\Data\Help folder.
