You are correct, the system is built around username/password style connections. Neither the Connector for Sybase, the Connector for ODBC (as an alternate option), nor the LCConnection class has an SSL property or option.
If security is a concern, there are some options such as the encryption of passwords, but there is not currently support for SSL.
