RE: Question about datatype mismatches and data transformation Thomas Kennedy 20.Apr.04 08:39 PM Lotus Notes LEI LEI - 6.0Windows 2000
Do you mind telling me why you choose to store date/time values as text in Notes, when Notes has a perfectly good date/time datatype? It's a Really Bad Idea to store dates in text fields, because it makes them unusable as dates (e.g. you can't sort by them).
What he said! I know it's a bad idea. I know the resulting field is useless. I know the sheriff is near. Unfortunately the folks I inherited the apps from didn't know any of these things and didn't think about it. After I finish moving all this stuff to LEI may be a good time to revisit some of these apps.
After that guy who wanted to store 00000001 in a number field I'm surprised you don't start chewing the carpet.
