Are you having difficulty with a microphone? Do you know that the problem is not hardware-related and do you suspect that it may be software-related? If so, here are a few tips for troubleshooting Sametime audio problems.
Check to see if the wrong device is selected in the Sametime audio preferences.
- In Sametime Connect, choose Options - Preferences.
- In the Preferences dialog box, select the Audio/Video tab.
- Click the Test My Audio/Video Tools button.
- In the Test Audio and Video window, click the Microphone link.
- Click the "set your audio preferences" link to open the Audio/Video Preferences dialog box.
- In the Preferred device fields, make sure the correct devices are selected.

If you change the device in the Preferences dialog box. you need to stop all of your browser windows and re-join the meeting. The Java Virtual Machine stays up until the last instance of the browser is closed and as such, the new preference choice is not read until the JVM is restarted.
If some other software has the sound card open, then Windows won't allow Sametime to open the card. Windows allows only one process to have the sound card open at a time.
Your sound card may be half duplex. Sametime supports only full duplex cards. The troubleshooting section of the Sametime 3.0 User's Guide provides a procedure that you can use to verify that your sound card is full duplex and working properly.
