More Ask Professor INI

In keeping with the elearning theme of several of this month's feature articles, Professor INI devotes this column to Notes.ini variables that affect Lotus LearningSpace - Virtual Classroom (LVC). As you read this column, keep in mind two important points:
  • These variables are undocumented and subject to change without notice from one release to the next. For the latest information on LVC-related variables, contact Lotus Support.
  • The purpose of this column is to provide information that may help you better understand what's going on "under the hood." However, we strongly recommend you never delete, modify, or otherwise edit these variables unless told to do so by Lotus Support. (Yes we know, Professor INI says that about all Notes.ini variables. But this time we really mean it!)

For more information on LVC, see "A quick course in LearningSpace - Virtual Classroom" in this month's issue of LDD Today.

ExtMgr_Addins=ndihmgr
This variable tells the Domino Extension Manager to load the LVC communication engine. ExtMgr_Addins is used on the Catalog and Content Server.

JavaUserClasses=<pathname>
On the Catalog Server, this setting specifies the locations of Java code and class files for LVC, QuickPlace, and other products. On the Session Server, JavaUserClasses identifies the locations of Java code and class files for LVC, Sametime, and other products.

$LVCDateFormat=<number>
(LVC 1.0 only) When set to 0, this variable instructs LVC to use the operating system's time setting for AM/PM. When set to 1, $LVCDateFormat tells LVC to use 24-hour time. This setting is used on both the Catalog and Content Server and the Session Server. (Note that this is the only LVC-related variable you should ever consider editing on your own, although as we stated earlier we recommend not changing this or any other setting described in this column unless under the direction of Lotus Support. Also note this variable applies only to LVC 1.0; it is obsolete in LVC 1.1 and later.)

LVCPageLibrary=<filename>
This setting identifies the LVC page library used by the QuickPlace server for breakout sessions; for example LVCPageLibrary=PageLibrary85256C44004916A5.nsf. It is used on the Catalog and Content Server.

QuickPlaceModules=C:\Lotus\lvc\bin\LHMSQPHook.dll
The QuickPlaceModules setting links the LVC communication engine to the QuickPlace API. It is used on the Catalog and Content Server.

QuickPlaceTemplates=virtualclassroom.ntf
This setting tells the QuickPlace server to cache LVC elements. This setting is used on the Catalog and Content Server.

Do you have a Notes.ini question? Send it in to Professor INI. We'll answer as many questions as we can in future "Ask Professor INI" columns. Keep in mind, however, that we may not be able to answer every question, nor can we quickly respond to requests that require immediate attention. If you need an immediate response to a question, we recommend you post it in the Notes/Domino Gold Release Forum where someone from the general Notes community might be able to help, or contact Lotus Support Services.
