Sametime Notes.ini variables
In keeping with this month's
QuickPlace 3.0 and Sametime 3.0 Special Issue
of
LDD Today
, Professor INI has focused attention on Notes.ini variables that apply to QuickPlace and Sametime.
(The QuickPlace variables are discussed in a companion column, "
QuickPlace Notes.ini variables
.")
As always, we recommend you edit your Notes.ini file only when advised to do so by Lotus Support. This is especially true for undocumented variables, several of which are mentioned in this article.
Sametime variables
In discussing Sametime variables, it's important to distinguish between Sametime.ini and Notes.ini. The file Sametime.ini contains configuration settings that apply to Sametime operation. In this capacity, it performs much the same function Notes.ini does in Notes/Domino. This article describes Sametime-related Notes.ini variables only; for information on Sametime.ini variables, consult the
Sametime documentation
available from the Documentation Library.
There is only one documented Notes.ini variable dedicated to Sametime 3.0:
STPurgeMeetingPastDays =<days>
This variable specifies the age (in days) of Meeting Details documents that are deleted from the Sametime Meeting Center by the PurgeMeetings agent. For example, STPurgeMeetingPastDays=30 deletes Meeting Details documents 30 days old. Note that the PurgeMeetings agent does not run if you specify a setting of 0 (zero). This variable applies to Sametime 3.0 only; it will not work with earlier releases of Sametime. For more information on STPurgeMeetingPastDay, see the
Sametime documentation
.
In addition, there are several undocumented Sametime variables. You should never modify these or any other undocumented variable unless you are a very experienced Domino administrator, and even then only under the direction of Lotus Support.
STProgramDirectory =<pathname>
This variable specifies the directory in which Sametime executable files are installed.
SametimeInstallType =<install type>
This variable determines how Sametime install runs. The install types are:
- New Merge, which installs into an existing Domino domain
- Complete, which indicates that Sametime is already set up
- Upgrade, which indicates an upgrade install
$STClientPackageInstalled =<n>
This variable enables or disables the Download link in the Sametime Meeting Center (STCenter.nsf). A value of 1 enables the Download link; 0 disables it.
$STServerAdminInstalled=<n>
This
variable
removes/replaces the home page link to the Administration client. A value of 0 removes the link, 1 replaces it.
There are also a number of related Notes.ini variables that can affect how Sametime runs. One example is JavaUserClasses. For information on setting this variable for Sametime, see the
LDD Today
article, "
A tour of Sametime servlets
."
Also, Lotus Discovery Server sites that do not deploy Sametime can optimize performance by disabling irrelevant LDAP lookup for a user's Sametime server. To do this, open your Notes.ini file and add LPSametimeEnabled=false. This disables the LDAP lookup for a person's Sametime server.
Sametime also adds an entry called STAddin to the ServerTasks Notes.ini variable.
In addition, the Notes.ini variable KeyFilename=<id file>, which specifies the location of the Domino server ID, also determines the ID used to start the Sametime server.
Do you have a NOTES.INI questions? Send it in to Professor INI. We'll answer as many questions as we can in future "Ask Professor INI" columns. Keep in mind, however, that we may not be able to answer every question, nor can we quickly respond to requests that require immediate attention. If you need an immediate response to a question, we recommend you post it in the
Notes/Domino Gold Release Forum
where someone from the general Notes community might be able to help, or contact
Lotus Support Services
